KIERNAN TO VANDER PLAATS: "RETURN THE MONEY"
It's bad enough that Two-Face Terry Branstad changes his positions on issues by the hour, now Bob Vander Plaats attacks the working Iowans who helped give him and his family a better quality of life and increased income.
"When I was a teacher, I never belonged to a union," said Vander Plaats. "The reason is the union has been the problem for education, it has not been a solution for education."
Union and non-union teachers work side-by-side to educate the next generation of Iowans. Those that join the union negotiate better working conditions and wage increases, and under current Iowa law, non-union members, like Bob Vander Plaats, still benefit from those negotiations.
"Bob, return the money," said Iowa Democratic Party Chairman Michael Kiernan. "If he honestly believes unions are always part of the 'problem' and won't concede that unions do a great deal for Iowa's working families, then he needs to return whatever extra wages he earned because of union negotiations."
Kiernan continued, "It's clear that his attack on Iowa's hard working families was just a ploy to score cheap political points. It's unfortunate that a man running for Governor freely attacks Iowa's hard working families without admitting that he and presumably his family have been the beneficiaries of those same organizations."
