GOVERNOR BRANSTAD VS. CANDIDATE BRANSTAD ON JOBS
Once again, candidate Branstad promises Iowans that he’ll create hundreds of thousands of new jobs for Iowans. Only problem is candidate Branstad knows he already broke that "promise."The truth is there are two faces to Terry Branstad: candidate Branstad who is making empty campaign promises to help him survive the primary and former Governor Branstad who failed to meet all of the promises that he’s made before.
“Iowans deserve better than to hear more political talk and empty promises from candidate Branstad. The truth is these are same promises Branstad already broke when he was Governor,” said Iowa Democratic Party Chairman Michael Kiernan.
Here are the facts about the two faces of Terry Branstad that candidate Branstad doesn't want Iowa’s voters to know:
Promise: 200, 000 new jobs for Iowans
Fact: In 1982, Branstad promised 180,000 jobs would be created over the next five years.[1] But, Branstad failed- creating less than 100,000 jobs.[2]
Fact: In 1994, Branstad promised 300,00 jobs would be created in the next four years but in one of the best periods of economic growth in recent history, he failed to meet even half of his goal.[3]
“The reality is that his promises are just a political stunt. In 4 terms as Governor, he failed over and over to keep his promises, and nothing is going to change this time around.”
"While Branstad plays politics by making empty promises his record shows he won't keep, Governor Culver is working hard to create jobs in Iowa,” said Kiernan.
