GOVERNOR BRANSTAD VS. CANDIDATE BRANSTAD ON INCREASING INCOME

Once again, candidate Branstad is making promises to Iowans that he broke when he was Governor. Why should Iowans believe anything will be different this time around?

There are two faces to Terry Branstad: candidate Branstad, who continues making empty campaign promises, and Governor Branstad, who failed to keep similar promises before.

“Branstad is recycling all the same, tired campaign promises he made before. He didn’t deliver then, and he won’t deliver now,” said Iowa Democratic Party Chairman Michael Kiernan.

Promise: Increase family incomes by 25%.
Fact: Sixteen years ago, Gov. Branstad promised to raise the median household income to above $40,000. Despite the prosperity spurred by a growing economy at the time, Gov. Branstad failed.1

“Branstad made almost the exact same promise in 1994, and he missed it. Why believe him now?”
