Branstad's Tax Hikes on Gas and Beer Hit Everyday Iowans Hard
October 3, 2009
Terry Branstad is clearly not the right Governor to have during a recession. In times like these, Iowans go back to basics and start pinching pennies. But Branstad will make sure the basics take an even bigger bite out of our monthly budgets.
Did you know that in Branstad’s second year in office he was already making it more expensive for Iowans to drink beer, hunt and fish, and drive their cars? It’s true, and it’s all part of a $44 million tax increase Branstad put together and sold to Iowa lawmakers back in 1984. Those tax hikes are part of the reason we pay so much to fill up our tanks today!
The 1984 tax hike was only one of several tax increases Branstad hit Iowans with as Governor. Branstad doesn’t get it. Iowans know there’s no reason to repeat the Branstad experience.
