BRANSTAD ON JOBS: MORE EMPTY, POLITICAL PROMISES
As candidate Branstad unveils his “plan” for job creation, his record as Governor proves that he won’t be able to keep these promises.
The cornerstone of Branstad’s 2010 job creation “plan” is a promise to create 200,000 new jobs.
“Candidate Branstad has made similar promises two times before. He’s failed each time he’s made the promise. Maybe the jobs he’s promising today are jobs he promised over 15 years ago that he failed to deliver,” said Iowa Democratic Party Chairman Michael Kiernan.
"The fact that he’s trying to masquerade as though this is something besides an empty, political promise is ridiculous and insulting to Iowa’s hard-working families.”
PROMISE: 200,000 new jobs for Iowans
FACT: In 1982, Branstad promised 180,000 jobs would be created over the next five years.[1] Branstad failed, creating less than 100,000 jobs.[2]
FACT: In 1994, Branstad promised 300,000 jobs would be created in the next four years but in one of the best periods of economic growth in recent history, he failed to meet even half of his goal.[3]
