Iowa Knows Better

Christian Fong

At first glance, Christian Fong stands out from the pack because he was just four years old when Terry Branstad was first elected.  However, he's marching lockstep with other Republicans in opposing I-JOBS and supporting arbitrary budget cuts.  As one of his first decisions he made as a candidate for Governor, Fong launched false and deeply misleading radio ads to attack Governor Culver.[1] It was a false and misleading ad that tried to claim the state "couldn't pay our bills" even though Iowa's budget is balanced.[2]

Fong changed his mind a number of times since joining the crowd of Republicans running for Governor.

  • He said "this is the worst time to raise taxes", then supported a local tax.[3]
  • He donated to Democrats and now that he is under pressure says he regrets it.[4]
  • He claims he opposes I-JOBS, but won't even comment either way on the recovery projects in his own community.[5]
  • He said he never voted for a pro-choice candidate in his life, but "can't remember" if he ever voted for Jim Leach.[6]

Fong has decided to become part of crowded Republican field more willing to say “no’ than offer real solutions. Iowans know better than to believe Fong won't keep changing his mind.
